Sponsored events are about more than just money
The 'feel-good' factor involved in raising funds through a sponsored event, can bring benefits
to you as much as to the charity you choose. Read the stories below for that bit of inspiration
to get you started.
Khushroo Bhandari shares the "secret" of his fundraising success!
"I have been doing the London/Brighton bike ride every year for the last seven.
I diligently train every year by taking my bike out of the garage the day before and pumping up
the tyres! The reason I am sharing this special training schedule of mine is to highlight how
it is possible to do some pretty amazing things and at the same time support LLLGB which is
dear to me.
The money, every year has come from Wilhelmsen Ships Service, my employer.
Many of the employees are the 'active' sort and are fascinated by what I do and how I manage
to do it. This interest makes it easy for me to approach so many departments and ask for their
financial support which every year is around £500.
I hope this is an inspiration to some of
you out there (Lance Armstrong returned to racing after hearing my story!).
LLLGB needs all the support it can get and supporting them gives me the incentive to rummage
through my garage each year in search of my bike".
Thanks, Khushroo. You are an inspiration - we think....?!
Khushroo does it again!
Khushroo completed the 2009 London-Brighton run in record time (for him!)and is now roaming the offices
of Wilhelmsen Ships Service getting his bosses and fellow workers to empty their pockets.
Kate Pallister achieves her goals
Kate decided to start running to improve her fitness. She thought if she tackled the Great North Run
and collected sponsorship money for La Leche League this would give her the added incentive to keep on track and make
a real difference to mothers and babies.
She achieved both her goals, completing the run and
raising over £900 (some of it from Coventry University Charity Fund). She said she was "knackered" afterwards, but
the sense of achievement was tremendous and something she wouldn't have missed for the world.
Thanks Kate, you are a star!
