  What’s this project about?

The core of La Leche League support is its network of Local Groups– there are groups in towns and cities across Great Britain (and indeed around the world). But there are areas where there are no LLL Local Groups at all. La Leche League GB has received funding from the Department of Health to help us expand our Local Groups network in England so that more mothers can access LLL support.

To do this, we will need to accredit at least ten (and preferably twenty!) new Leaders in places that currently do not have an LLL Group. If LLL leadership appeals to you and there is no LLL Group nearby, read on to see if you could qualify to join this exciting new project.

What would it involve? image024 (7K)

To be part of this exciting project, you would need to meet certain prerequisites and spend time preparing to become an LLL Leader (breastfeeding counsellor), which could take around 6 months. You would then be supported to set up an LLL Local Group in your area and to run it for at least a year.

So, would you like

  • to find out more about breastfeeding?
  • to learn how to support other breastfeeding women?
  • to develop listening and communication skills?
  • to learn how to set up an LLL Local Group?
  • to encourage other mothers to become LLL Leaders?

Where and when will this happen?

The possible areas are listed at the side. This is just a list of possibilities, and other areas may be considered too, but note:

  1. The project funding does not stretch to cover Scotland or Wales.
  2. Once the project places have been filled, people from other areas who wish to become Leaders may be accepted on the project’s Preparation for leadership days if places are available and / or outside funding can be found.
We are looking to run awareness days to introduce people to the project during summer and autumn 2009.

Volunteer helps with 10 New Groups Project

Zubin Sethna, of Baresman Consulting, who describes himself as "entrepreneur, strategist, educator and optimist", gave a helping hand to a member of our 10 New Groups project team, by working on the organisation and set up of one of the recent Awareness Days. Help such as this is worth its weight in gold! Organising and setting up these days can take a lot of effort - Zubin's help and support enabled the Leader involved to give all her energy to the most important task - working with the mums.

Thank you indeed, Mr Sethna.
