Congratulations on your pregnancy! Please join our FREE practical and interactive online course to learn about the first days and weeks of breastfeeding your baby and how to continue with confidence with help from your support partner and resources from La Leche League GB and beyond.
Beginning Breastfeeding Online will help you to feel positive and encouraged that you and your baby/babies have the ability to breastfeed. In addition to empowering you with the knowledge and techniques needed to get started, it also connects you to free unlimited breastfeeding resources from La Leche League and with a community of breastfeeding families.
The Beginning Breastfeeding Online course is facilitated by LLL Leaders (accredited breastfeeding counsellors). LLL Leaders are volunteers, running this course from our homes across Great Britain.
What you can expect from the course:
During pregnancy, many of us focus on preparing for birth. Whether we realise it or not, our babies and our bodies are also preparing for breastfeeding. Often, parents think about breastfeeding as something they will try, and hope for the best. During the course we talk about these hopes and worries, leaving you feeling confident in your body and your baby’s ability to breastfeed.
Preparing for breastfeeding and finding a good support network before the arrival of our baby can be empowering and help us to see any hurdles that may arise along the way as exactly that: challenges that can be overcome with accurate information and support.
The course is designed for you and a support partner of your choice (optional). These are live online sessions that encourage discussion and connection. The group is limited to about 10 participants to help you to create that first support network during pregnancy, birth and beyond.
During the course, you will learn about…
- How your body and your baby are preparing to breastfeed
- How milk production works
- Colostrum harvesting and hand expression
- Signs of effective feeding and getting enough milk
- Skin-to-skin: its importance in breastfeeding and overcoming challenges
- Comfortable breastfeeding (positions and latch)
- Restful feeding/safe sleep
- Overcoming common challenges
- How to support a breastfeeding parent
